Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant – Primary
Location: NewcastleContract Type:[Full-time / Part-time / Term-time only]Start Date: ASAP
About the RoleWe are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive primary school team. This role involves working closely with children who have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with diverse SEN needs
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management
- Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support pupils with personal care where required
- Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to staff
- Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children with SEN (school or care setting)
- Is patient, empathetic, and resilient
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills
- Can adapt to the individual needs of each child
- Is proactive and able to use initiative
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Desirable (but not essential):
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant)
- Experience with autism or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of behaviour support strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, or Team Teach)
