Their evening courses run over seven weeks and provide a welcoming, supportive space for adult learners to build confidence and practical skills.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Deliver hands-on, engaging carpentry sessions that help adults learn at Levels 1 and 2.
  • Plan fun, structured lessons that meet awarding-body requirements and college standards.
  • Show learners how to use tools and equipment safely while guiding them through practical tasks.
  • Assess progress through observations and short assessments, helping learners build evidence where needed.
  • Offer friendly, constructive feedback and keep learners motivated throughout the course.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy workshop environment at all times.
  • Keep essential records updated, such as registers and assessments.
  • Share ideas and contribute to the continuous improvement of the curriculum and learner experience.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Solid, up-to-date industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Recognised carpentry qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • Confidence in demonstrating carpentry techniques and supporting others to try them safely.
  • Excellent communication skills and enjoyment in helping adults with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Pride in creating a positive, professional, and safe workshop space.
  • It would be beneficial (but not essential) to have:
    • A teaching qualification (AET, PGCE, Cert Ed) — or willingness to work toward one.
    • An assessing qualification (like TAQA or A1).
    • Previous experience teaching adults or working in further education (FE).
    • Familiarity with Level 1 and Level 2 construction qualification standards.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly teaching rate.
  • Supportive, approachable Construction team who are passionate about what they do.
  • Opportunities for CPD, training, and professional growth.
  • The chance to inspire adult learners and help them take meaningful next steps in their careers.
