Risk and Compliance Lawyer

We have an exciting opportunity that has come up with a major International law firm for an experienced Risk and Compliance Lawyer to join their General Counsel’s office here in London. Hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office


Role Responsibilities

  • Advise partners, lawyers, and business services teams on issues of firm policy, professional ethics and regulation, including the SRA Standards & Regulations and the GDPR.
  • Answer queries from the business on compliance policies and related processes.
  • Review, update and draft internal policies, guidance notes, and compliance alerts on regulatory matters including in relation to failure to prevent offences, Market Abuse Regulation, and anti-bribery and corruption.
  • Assist with the review and update of the firm's data privacy policies, privacy notices and records of processing activities.
  • Coordinate the annual practising certificate renewal exercise, including communications, monitoring declarations and gathering information for submission to the SRA.
  • Maintain the firm's SRA account and assist with corporate filings made on behalf of the firm.
  • Assist with the firm's ICO data protection registration.
  • Maintain the London office gifts and hospitality register.
  • Create walls and insider lists.
  • Advise on the firm's internal data flows and international data transfers, preparing legitimate interests assessments and transfer impact assessments.
  • Assist with due diligence of new or changing vendors and technology, including completing Data Protection Impact Assessments, and advise on associated contractual arrangements such as vendor Data Processing Agreements and international data transfer terms.
  • Assist with the firm's response to data subject requests and data privacy incidents.
  • Review and advise on client engagement documentation and contractual arrangements, including NDAs, Data Processing Agreements and client or supplier questionnaires.
  • Assist with the firm's response to client audit assessment questionnaires and supplier questionnaires covering corporate, policy, regulatory and data privacy-related matters.
  • Assist with the development, delivery and coordination of ethics, professional responsibility and data privacy training and compliance alerts.
  • Support horizon-scanning for developments in law, regulation or the broader legal services environment that could impact the firm's risk and compliance framework.
