Job description

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a data privacy lawyer to join the London office of a leading international law firm in a broad and strategic Assistant General Counsel position. Sitting within the firm’s global data function, this role offers the chance to play a key part in shaping and supporting the organisation’s approach to data protection, governance and responsible data use across an international platform.

Why Apply

  • Strategic impact – take on a visible role advising on global data privacy frameworks and governance initiatives across a major international organisation
  • Broad and varied remit – work on a wide range of complex data privacy matters spanning governance, operations and emerging technologies
  • High visibility role – collaborate closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to firmwide data strategy and risk management
  • Cutting-edge work – advise on complex international privacy matters, including emerging technologies and AI, within a sophisticated global legal environment
  • Excellent environment – join a highly respected organisation offering an attractive six-figure salary, benefits and hybrid working

The successful candidate will provide practical legal advice on global privacy frameworks, support the development of data governance strategies and ensure that personal data is handled responsibly and in line with regulatory expectations, including in relation to emerging technologies and AI. The role will also involve reviewing how personal data is collected, stored and used across the organisation, contributing to data governance initiatives and advising on processes including procurement and third-party arrangements. Close collaboration with stakeholders across the business will be required to support new initiatives, operational processes and evolving regulatory requirements, including privacy impact assessments and incident response where required.

Candidate Profile

Candidates will have experience advising on global privacy laws and regulatory frameworks, ideally gained within an international law firm or comparable professional services environment, and experience supporting the practical implementation of privacy programmes. The ability to operate calmly under pressure and provide confident, practical advice on privacy issues at short notice is essential. The firm is ideally seeking candidates with around 4–5 years’ experience, though strong applicants outside this range will also be considered.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a privacy lawyer seeking a broad in-house role with strategic exposure and close interaction with senior leadership.
