Summary

A Cable Technician is responsible for physical installation, maintenance, and support of data cabling and network infrastructure. This role focuses on hardware racking, structured cable management, inventory control, and coordination of shipping and receiving processes.

Core Responsibilities

• Rack and stack servers, network switches, and storage devices following documented procedures.
• Execute high-precision cable management for copper and fiber assemblies.
• Perform inventory audits, update asset management systems, and reconcile discrepancies.
• Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and documentation.
• Collaborate with operations, security, and facilities teams for smooth workflow.
• Troubleshoot basic hardware and cabling issues and escalate complex problems.

Technical Competencies

• Structured cabling standards for Cat6/Cat6a, single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
• Proficiency with cable testers, crimpers, and rack installation tools.
• Basic knowledge of server hardware (RAID configurations, blade systems, rack PDUs).
• Experience with asset management tools and barcode scanners.
• Understanding of ESD precautions, safety practices, and PPE requirements.
