Principal Engineer

London (Hybrid – 2 days in office)

We’re partnering with a leading UK consumer platform used by millions every day, currently looking for a Principal Engineer to shape the future of their search and discovery capabilities.

This is a high-impact, cross-team role where you’ll influence architecture, guide engineering direction, and work closely with product and leadership to deliver scalable, high-performing systems.

The Role

• Lead architecture across a large-scale consumer-facing platform
• Own and evolve search & discovery systems (Elasticsearch)
• Drive best practices across engineering quality, performance, and scalability
• Partner with Engineering Managers and Product to deliver complex, high-value initiatives
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across teams

What They’re Looking For

• Strong backend development experience using Java and Spring Boot
• Deep experience with Elasticsearch.
• Proven track record designing scalable, distributed systems
• Experience operating across multiple teams or domains
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
