Assistant Accountant

£19.00 Per Hour

Job description

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to provide accounting support to two internal teams, onsite at a large helicopter manufacturer, based in Yeovil. This Assistant Accountant role is initially set up for a 12 month temporary contract and is subject to review after this.

Your role will be to support the day to day tasks, including performing key month end, budgeting and reporting processes, ensuring deadlines are achieved with a high level of accuracy.

The main roles will include but not be limited to:
Ensure costs are analysed and accruals posted to deliver accurate and timely monthly actual reporting
Support the business in ensuring cost allocation is to the correct cost elements/functional cost centres
Working with Business Partners to support daily Business requests and queries
Contribute to the timely delivery of the annual operating cost budget and forecasts
Support external audit process where required, particularly with audit preparation in advance and sampling request evidence gathering
Document processes to aid reduction of single point failures, allow for holiday cover
Support reporting role to build in more efficient processes and high accuracy, especially budget process
Identify and communicate any cost risks and opportunities throughout the year to assist in accurate forecasting and minimise surprises
Communicate in a clear and effective way to both the Industrial Performance team and across all Business functions where required, resolving queries and requesting functional inputs as required.
Undertake additional duties that will arise from time to time to support the Industrial Performance and Operations team.

Skills and Experience

  • AAT qualified or Part Qualified or equivalent working experience
  • Demonstrable IT knowledge Strong Microsoft skills essential (Excel, PowerPoint), ERP (preferably SAP or similar ERP systems)
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Attention to detail, high level of accuracy in outputs
  • Ability to work proactively and take ownership for tasks
  • Ability to be flexible in terms of work responsibilities with a keen interest to learn and document processes
  • A team player, including cross-functional teams
