Learning Support Assistant

Job description

We are working in partnership with a specialist school who are seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a specialist school supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). The school provides a modern, well-resourced environment designed to meet the needs of every learner, including sensory spaces, specialist classrooms, and outdoor learning areas.

This role will begin as a long term role on a full time basis with the view of becoming permanent if successful.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers and other staff to help deliver a high-quality, inclusive learning experience tailored to individual needs.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with additional needs, including SLD and communication difficulties
  • Work 1:1 and with small groups to support learning and development
  • Encourage communication using a range of strategies and approaches
  • Support positive behaviour, recognising that behaviour is a form of communication
  • Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom preparation
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times


Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (SEN experience desirable)
  • Understanding or willingness to learn that behaviour is communication
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive, patient, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to use initiative and support pupils with a range of needs
  • Commitment to supporting pupil progress, engagement, and wellbeing
