WORK EXPERIENCE - QUANTITY SURVEYINGNG Bailey is offering a 4-week paid work experience opportunity within our Commercial team, based on a live electrical and mechanical engineering project.
This placement is designed for individuals who are interested in exploring a career in Quantity Surveying within the construction and M&E engineering sector, providing a realistic insight into the role and the commercial aspects of project delivery.
What you will doDuring the placement, you will work alongside and be supported by an experienced Quantity Surveyor on site. You will:
Shadow the Quantity Surveyor to understand their day‐day role on a live project
Observe how commercial decisions are made across the project lifecycle
Support with basic commercial and administrative tasks, such as:
Assisting with measurement and record‐keeping
Reviewing drawings and specifications to understand scope
Supporting the preparation of simple cost reports or valuations
Observing how variations, payments, and subcontractor accounts are managed
Attend site meetings to see how commercial, engineering, and project teams collaborate
What you will learnThis placement is focused on learning and exposure, helping you to:
Gain a clear understanding of what a Quantity Surveyor does within an M&E contractor
Learn how commercial teams support successful project delivery
Understand the link between engineering design, site delivery, and commercial control
Decide whether a career in quantity surveying and the construction industry is right for you

No previous quantity surveying or construction experience is required.
