Capgemini Engineering is looking for a Senior CFD Engineer

Job description

Senior CFD Engineer

Bristol - Hybrid

£60,000 - £65,000

Our Offer

Capgemini Engineering are looking to recruit a Senior CFD Engineer with particular focus on simulating airflow around aircraft designs and engines to optimize performance, handling, and safety.

Your Role

As a CFD engineer you will be involved in using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to analyse aerodynamic behaviour, generate aerodynamic models, and provide data for various stages of aircraft as well as engine development. Key skills include expertise in CFD software, meshing, data analysis, and a strong understanding of aerodynamics and flight dynamics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with 3D CAD models (e.g., 3DX, CATIA, SolidWorks) to prepare geometries for CFD simulations.
  • Preparing CFD meshes (e.g., Fluent Meshing, ICEM CFD, ANSA or CADfix).
  • Using CFD software TAU and CODA (also Ansys Fluent, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+) to simulate airflow and analyse aerodynamic performance.
  • Post-processing the CFD solutions (e.g., python scripts, Tecplot, Paraview).
  • Creating aerodynamic models and databases based on CFD and experimental data (wind tunnel, flight tests).
  • Contributing to the optimization of aircraft designs by analysing aerodynamic behaviour and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Analysing CFD results, extracting insights, and presenting findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead junior engineers within the team to integrate CFD results and contribute to the overall completion of the project
  • Write and approve technical reports.
  • Maintain direct working relationships with clients, team members and represent your work during client meetings.

Your Profile

  • A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with a specialization in aerodynamics.
  • Proficiency in CFD software, meshing techniques, and turbulence modelling.
  • Strong understanding of aerodynamic principles, flight mechanics, and aircraft performance.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, and present CFD results effectively.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to follow client needs.
  • Communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Team player, able to work effectively and to short timescales with others in a busy environment.
  • Proactive attitude and ability to communicate and report at different levels.
  • Excellent communication skills with a good level of verbal and written English.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Python, MATLAB, or similar for data analysis and automation could be a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Unix would be a plus.
