Anson McCade is looking for a Solutions Architect

Job description

AWS Solution Architect

Location: London / Leeds / Manchester

Salary: £70,000 – £90,000 + package + DV allowance

About the Role

Our client is a major force in the UK’s cyber and national security landscape, delivering complex, high-impact programmes across government and defence.

They are hiring an AWS Solution Architect to lead cloud migration and architecture across large-scale, mission-critical environments. This is a hands-on architecture role where you will define how AWS is used from the ground up, shaping patterns, standards and long-term cloud strategy.

You will work directly with customers to design cloud-native solutions, ensuring migrations are not just successful, but scalable, secure and built for reuse. This is a key hire with real influence across architecture, engineering and stakeholder decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will operate as the technical lead across AWS migration and platform architecture.

  • Leading architecture for AWS cloud migration, from current state through to target design
  • Defining reusable cloud patterns, standards and reference architectures
  • Working closely with engineering teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure and cost-effective
  • Driving Infrastructure as Code and automation across deployments
  • Running architecture reviews and continuously optimising platform design
  • Acting as the escalation point for complex technical issues and incident management
  • Collaborating across multiple teams to ensure consistency and alignment in delivery

Ideal Background

This role is suited to someone already operating at senior or lead architect level within AWS environments.

  • Strong experience designing AWS cloud architectures in large, multi-account environments
  • Proven track record delivering cloud migration programmes
  • Deep understanding of AWS services, networking and security
  • Experience with DevOps tooling and CI/CD pipelines
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments and leading technical direction
  • Ability to engage and influence both technical teams and senior stakeholders

Nice to have:

  • AWS certifications (Associate, Professional or Specialist)
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading teams
  • Exposure to scaled Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum@Scale)

What You’ll Receive

  • £70,000 – £90,000 base salary
  • £7,000 DV bonus (tax free) once clearance is obtained
  • Strong pension, bonus and flexible benefits package
  • 25 days holiday with buy/sell options
  • Clear progression with structured career support
  • Opportunity to work on high-security, high-impact programmes

Key Requirements

  • Must be a sole British national (DV clearance eligibility)
  • Willing to go through Developed Vetting (DV)
  • Comfortable with hybrid working (typically 3 days on-site)

Who Should Apply

This is a strong fit for architects who want to move into more complex, high-stakes environments, where the scale, security requirements and architectural challenges are significantly beyond typical commercial projects.
