Casual Recreation Assistant

Job description

A flexible, customer facing role supporting safe, welcoming leisure facilities within a vibrant school community.

Situated on the edge of the Wellington College estate, the Health & Fitness Club provides a welcoming setting for members and staff. The Club is a busy, multi use leisure facility serving pupils, staff, members and external users, and plays an important role in supporting health, wellbeing and community engagement across the College.

We are seeking Casual Recreation Assistants to primarily support lifeguard cover across the swimming pool on a flexible, as required basis. This role is particularly suited to individuals who already hold a current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or are close to renewal, and who are able to offer availability during evenings, weekends and peak operational periods. Casual shifts are offered in line with operational need and provide flexibility alongside other commitments.

As a Casual Recreation Assistant, your main focus will be maintaining a safe and well supervised pool environment, responding calmly and professionally to swimmers and users, and acting promptly in line with training and procedures. You will play an important role in ensuring safeguarding and safety standards are consistently upheld. Alongside poolside duties, you may also be asked to support wider Club operations, helping to maintain high standards of presentation, customer service and professionalism across the facility.

You will work closely with Duty Officers and the wider Operations team, contributing positively to a collaborative and service focused environment. A confident, responsible approach and a clear commitment to safety are essential, as is the ability to engage positively with a wide range of users, including pupils, staff, members and visitors.

Working within a busy and welcoming school environment provides a real sense of purpose. You will be encouraged in your development and supported with training opportunities, while working alongside colleagues committed to maintaining high standards for pupils, staff and visitors.
