An exciting opportunity for a dynamic pastoral leader with strong behaviour management, safeguarding and student welfare experience to lead a busy Student Hub, supporting attendance, inclusion and student wellbeing in a thriving secondary school.

SALARY: £33,179 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £27,883 (based on 38 weeks) + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire(SO30) Fully Site Based

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Thursday 8.00am to 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm (37 hours per week, term time only, 38 weeks)

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Pastoral Manager / Head of Student Services to lead a high-impact pastoral support function within a fast-paced secondary school setting.

As a Pastoral Manager / Head of Student Services you will play a central role in behaviour management, safeguarding, attendance monitoring and student wellbeing, ensuring every learner receives the support they need to succeed.

Working closely with senior leadership, the Pastoral Manager / Head of Student Services will lead a dedicated team, coordinate interventions, and build strong relationships with students, families and external agencies to improve outcomes and remove barriers to learning.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Pastoral Manager / Head of Student Services include:

  • Lead Student Hub Operations: Oversee the day-to-day running of the Student Hub ensuring a safe, structured and supportive environment
  • Manage Pastoral Support Team: Lead, motivate and develop staff to deliver high-quality student services and interventions
  • Support Student Welfare: Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students experiencing challenges in school or at home
  • Coordinate Behaviour Management: Promote positive behaviour strategies and support staff with challenging behaviour incidents
  • Monitor Attendance: Track attendance, punctuality and persistent absence, implementing strategies to improve engagement
  • Liaise with Families and Agencies: Build effective relationships with parents, carers and external professionals to support student outcomes
  • Oversee Interventions: Coordinate targeted pastoral interventions, including support for SEMH and EBSA needs
  • Provide Safeguarding Support: Act as a key safeguarding contact, identifying concerns and escalating where appropriate
  • Analyse Data and Report: Monitor impact of interventions and produce reports for senior leadership
  • Promote Inclusion: Support inclusive practices and remove barriers to learning for vulnerable students

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience in a pastoral, student services or behaviour management role within education
  • Proven experience of leading or supervising staff in a school or similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, student welfare and behaviour management strategies
  • Experience with attendance monitoring and intervention planning
  • A background in supporting students with SEMH, EBSA or behavioural needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students and families
  • Ability to manage complex situations with empathy, resilience and professionalism
  • Experience working with external agencies and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence using data to inform decisions and improve student outcomes
