Job description
Grid Manager - UK Projects - Manchester OR London (3 days in the office a week)
The Company
I'm working with a UK-based energy infrastructure business who are developing grid-connected projects that support a more resilient, flexible and low-carbon electrcitity system. Their portfolio spans distribution and transmission-level assets across Great Britain, with a strong focus on early grid engagement and deliverable project design.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Grid Connection Manager to lead the delivery of grid connections across a growing portfolio of energy infrastructure projects in the UK.
This is a pivotal role within the business, working at the interface of project development, engineering, commercial teams and external network stakeholders to secure timely and cost-effective grid access. You will take ownership of the full grid connection lifecycle, from early feasibility through to energisation, across transmission and distribution networks.
The role can be based in London or Manchester, with flexible hybrid working and regular engagement with network operators and project sites across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the single point of accountability for grid connection strategy and delivery across multiple projects
- Manage grid applications and agreements with DNOs, IDNOs and the National Electricity Transmission System Operator
- Lead early-stage grid feasibility studies, connection option assessments and capacity analysis
- Develop and maintain grid programmes, ensuring alignment with project development milestones
- Negotiate and manage Connection Offers, Construction Agreements and Adoption Agreements
- Coordinate technical inputs including load flow studies, protection requirements, outage planning and commissioning strategies
- Work closely with internal engineering, planning, commercial and project delivery teams to de-risk grid interfaces
- Manage external consultants, ICPs and contestable works providers where applicable
- Support commercial decision-making through grid cost estimates, risk assessments and programme assumptions
- Monitor and manage changes to connection scope, cost or programme, escalating risks where required
- Stay informed on regulatory, policy and network changes impacting grid access and connection timelines
About You
You will be a pragmatic and technically confident grid professional who understands the realities of delivering connections in a constrained UK network environment.
Essential experience:
- Proven experience delivering grid connections within the UK electricity network
- Strong understanding of DNO and National Grid processes, standards and governance
- Experience managing grid connections for renewable generation, storage, data centres or large demand projects
- Ability to interpret technical studies and challenge assumptions constructively
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
- Strong understanding and experience
Desirable:
- Background in project development, network operators, ICPs or EPC organisations
- Experience across both distribution and transmission-level connections
- Familiarity with the connections reform process and queue management
- Chartered or working towards chartership (IET, CEng or similar)
What We Offer
- Competitive salary with performance-related bonus
- Hybrid working with flexibility between London or Manchester
- Exposure to nationally significant energy infrastructure projects
- A collaborative, delivery-focused culture with clear progression opportunities
- The opportunity to shape grid strategy at a critical time for the UK energy system
For this position, my client is unable to sponsor VISAs, so it's vital that when you're applying you already have full working rights in the UK.
