Principal Medical Writer

Medical Talent is looking for a Principal Medical Writer

Job description

Strategic Principal Medical Writer - Scientific leadership. Real influence. Work that genuinely matters.

If you’re ready to step beyond delivery and truly shape strategy, this could be your next move.

We’re looking for a Strategic Principal Medical Writer/Scientific Lead to join a growing, independent MedComms agency working on a high-profile global medical affairs account across respiratory and immunology. Think COPD, complex science, and programmes that influence real clinical practice.

This is a role where you won’t just “support strategy”. You’ll help define it. You’ll sit at the heart of the account as a trusted scientific partner, balancing hands-on content leadership with high-level strategic input.

You’ll:

  • Lead scientific direction across key workstreams and programmes
  • Oversee the development and review of high-quality medical affairs content
  • Partner closely with global clients, providing confident, strategic counsel
  • Engage with leading external experts in the field
  • Drive consistency, quality, and scientific rigour across deliverables
  • Mentor and develop junior writers, helping to raise the bar across the team
  • Contribute to shaping the longer-term direction of the account

What they’re looking for

  • Strong background in medical affairs writing within MedComms
  • Proven experience in respiratory and/or immunology (COPD highly desirable)
  • Someone comfortable operating at a strategic level, not just delivery
  • Confident client communicator, able to challenge and advise
  • Experience mentoring or line managing team members
  • Resilient, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • PhD or MSc in a biological, biomedical, pharmacological or medical discipline

This is an agency that genuinely looks after its people while delivering standout work.

You’ll get:

  • £55,000–£65,000 salary
  • Industry-leading bonus scheme
  • Fully remote working, with optional office time in Manchester or Oxford
  • A genuinely supportive, down-to-earth team
  • Clear, realistic career progression
  • Strong work/life balance (no lip service here)

If you’re looking for a role where you can lead, influence, and grow, without sacrificing balance, this is well worth a conversation.
