Principal Structural Engineer

£65,000 - £75,000 + Benefits

We’re working with a successful and growing, multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy in Portsmouth looking to appoint a Principal Structural Engineer to play a key role within the business.

This is a great opportunity for either an established Principal or a Senior Structural Engineer ready to step up. You’ll take ownership of projects, lead from a technical perspective and support the wider team across a varied and interesting workload.

You’ll have plenty of autonomy, a strong level of trust and the backing of an established consultancy without unnecessary layers of red tape.

The Role

Lead structural projects from concept through to completion

Act as the key technical lead within the team

Mentor and support junior engineers

Deliver designs, calculations and technical documentation

Manage client relationships and represent the business professionally

Support tenders, surveys and feasibility work

Ensure compliance with current standards and regulations

Work with BIM / 3D modelling tools to deliver efficiently

What They’re Looking For

✅ Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

✅ Strong experience across structural design projects

✅ Chartered or working towards (IStructE)

✅ Good working knowledge of UK regulations and standards

✅ Confident dealing with clients and stakeholders

✅ Experience with software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Civil 3D

✅ Able to run projects and take ownership

✅ Ability to gain Security Clearance

Nice to Have

⭐ MEng or similar

⭐ BIM experience

⭐ Project/contract exposure
