Job description
Business Development Manager (UK)
Hybrid role, UK based – remote with regular attendance at industry events
Company Overview
Downforce Technologies is a UK-based climate and agriculture technology company that delivers accurate, scalable and affordable soil and land cover data to support sustainable land management, resilient food systems and profitable farms.
We work with farmers, landowners and supply chain companies to provide scientifically robust data they can trust — enabling better land management decisions, improved resilience and credible reporting against leading global standards.
We are a remote-first business with a global team spanning science, technology and commercial delivery, united by a mission to make healthy soils the foundation for food security and a resilient planet.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to help grow Downforce’s commercial footprint in the UK and Europe, with a particular focus on agriculture, food supply chains and associated stakeholders.
This is a hybrid role combining remote working with regular in-person engagement, including conferences, industry events, partner meetings and on-farm visits.
You will play a key role in developing new opportunities, shaping partnerships, and helping customers understand how Downforce’s SOC data supports practical decision-making, resilience and reporting needs. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career, with 2 - 3 years experience.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Identify and develop new commercial opportunities across agriculture, food and fibre supply chains, landowners, and finance.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective customers and partners, from early engagement through to contract close.
- Represent Downforce at industry events, conferences and meetings, building relationships and market presence.
- Work with internal teams to shape propositions that respond clearly to customer needs.
Market & Customer Engagement
- Develop a strong understanding of customer challenges related to soil health, resilience, measurement and reporting.
- Communicate the value of Downforce’s Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) data clearly and credibly, translating technical concepts into practical benefits.
- Support early customer onboarding and feedback loops alongside delivery and science colleagues.
- Act as a voice of the customer internally, helping inform product direction and priorities.
Commercial Operations
- Maintain accurate records of prospects, opportunities and activity within CRM tools.
- Contribute to sales planning, forecasting and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with marketing, science and leadership to align messaging, events and outreach.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in business development, commercial partnerships or sales within agriculture, food supply chains, environmental data, sustainability or related sectors.
- Comfort working in a startup or growth-stage business, with a willingness to take responsibility and adapt quickly.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to travel within the UK (and occasionally internationally) to attend events, meetings and site visits.
- UK based.
Preferred
- Background in agriculture, agribusiness, food and fibre supply chains, land management or environmental services.
- Familiarity with sustainability, climate reporting, soil health or nature-based solutions.
- Experience working with farmers, supply chain companies, or advisory organisations.
- Experience using CRM systems and managing structured sales pipelines.
- Southern England preferable.
What We Offer
A meaningful commercial role contributing directly to more resilient agriculture and food systems.
Hybrid working within a remote-first, high-trust culture.
Competitive compensation aligned with experience, with performance-related incentives.
Opportunities to grow with the company and shape how we work as we scale.
The chance to work closely with scientists, technologists and commercial leaders at the forefront of soil and climate measurement.
How to Apply
If you are excited by the challenge of building trusted commercial relationships in agriculture and food systems, and enjoy working in a mission-driven startup environment, we would love to hear from you.
