Lead Senior Lighting & Electrical Engineer


Location: Birmingham, B4 6AT (Hybrid, UK flexible locations considered)

Salary: £55,000 – £65,000

Contract: Permanent


About the Role

We are seeking a permanent Lead Senior Lighting & Electrical Engineer to join a Consulting Energy, Lighting & Technology Practice. You will work on major UK infrastructure lighting and technology projects within a large-scale transport renewals programme.

You will take a lead role in project delivery, oversee technical outputs, and support the development of a growing team of lighting engineers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team delivering compliant, technically sound engineering solutions
  • Produce and check designs, calculations, drawings, and project documentation
  • Oversee and support junior engineers’ work
  • Manage project budgets and commercial performance
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Support bid preparation and work-winning activities
  • Ensure health and safety compliance across all project work
  • Act as main engineering contact on assigned projects
  • Contribute to design reviews and risk management
  • Act as Principal Designer where required
  • Supervise and develop a small technical team


Requirements

  • Experience in lighting or electrical engineering design delivery
  • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Knowledge of transport/roadside infrastructure systems (desirable)
  • Strong experience with CDM Regulations and health & safety management
  • Ability to manage project risks, budgets, and deliverables
  • Experience checking technical design outputs
  • Competent with relevant engineering software/tools
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring or managing engineers
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (desirable or contract-dependent)
  • Senior Engineer level experience or equivalent
