About the role
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Mathematics Tutor to join our team, working primarily with GCSE students aged 16-18. In this role, you will inspire learners, build their confidence, and support them in achieving their academic potential in Mathematics, ensuring they are well prepared for their exams and future progression.
You will plan and deliver high quality GCSE Maths lessons that engage and challenge students, using a variety of innovative teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs. As part of the maths team, you will contribute to the development of creative and effective approaches to delivery, helping to enhance the overall quality of Mathematics education across the department.
A key part of the role involves preparing students for their GCSE examinations through well designed assessments that accurately measure understanding and progress. You will provide timely, constructive feedback to help learners improve and succeed. You will also foster a positive, supportive learning environment that promotes active participation, independent thinking, and the development of strong problem solving skills.
Whilst a full-time tutor is preferential, we are willing to consider this role on a part-time basis 18.5 hours per week (0.5fte - 2.5 days) or 27.75 hours per week (0.75 fte - 4/5 days). Please make clear on your application form in the supporting evidence section if you wish to be considered for part time or full time. If requesting part-time, please specify the fraction you require. Please note that the salary and annual leave entitlement will be pro rata for part-time.
About the person
We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and innovative teacher who is committed to delivering high quality Mathematics education. You will hold at least a Level 3 qualification in Mathematics, with a relevant degree considered desirable. A recognised Level 5/6 teaching qualification, such as a PGCE or CertEd, is preferred; however, we are equally interested in applicants who are willing to work towards gaining one.
You will bring proven experience of teaching Mathematics at GCSE level, ideally within a further education environment, and be confident in delivering the GCSE curriculum and preparing learners for their examinations. Familiarity with GCSE assessment requirements and experience supporting students in an FE setting will be advantageous.
Strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a collaborative approach to working within a team. You will be committed to supporting learners, contributing to the department, and continually developing your own teaching practice.
