Engineering Manager (Water) - Permanent · Full‑time (North West or London regions)

Leading multidisciplinary engineering and design delivery across major water and wastewater

treatment projects for the AMP8 programme


Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary civil engineering delivery across major clean water and wastewater projects within a long‑term regulated framework. The role sits within a well‑established UK infrastructure contractor recognised for its strong engineering culture, commitment to professional development and consistent delivery of complex civil engineering projects across the water sector. This position offers long‑term programme security, genuine technical ownership and clear progression pathways.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and engineering delivery for water and wastewater treatment projects from early surveys through to commissioning and handover
  • Manage subconsultants and subcontractors to ensure design and delivery outputs meet scope, programme and quality requirements
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress, resolve technical issues and ensure alignment between the design, procurement and construction teams
  • Build strong client relationships and provide clear technical updates throughout the project lifecycle
  • Drive consistent implementation of health, safety, quality and environmental procedures
  • Prepare engineering plans, reports and project documentation, ensuring technical change is effectively managed
  • Support continuous improvement through lessons learned and process enhancements
  • Identify temporary works and lifting requirements early and support the relevant project leads
  • Monitor supply chain and in‑house delivery performance against programme commitments


Key Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership
  • Multidisciplinary engineering delivery experience
  • Strong Engineering Management and Team Leadership skills to guide and support diverse teams effectively
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards in construction, particularly in water and wastewater sectors
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of resolving technical issues and managing project changes, for best project outcomes
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to manage design budgets, timelines, and resources effectively
  • Adaptable and solution-oriented mindset, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
