  • Act as the primary technical authority within the mechanical function, guiding design decisions and problem-solving approaches
  • Drive engineering excellence by establishing and improving design processes, standards, and ways of working
  • Identify skills gaps within the team and actively support both technical growth and career development
  • Oversee and coordinate complex project work packages, ensuring successful delivery across multiple concurrent programmes
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive, system-level integration
  • Balance hands-on design involvement with leadership responsibilities, leading by example in technical delivery
  • Support resource planning and team structure decisions, ensuring the team is set up for success.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams within a mechanical design environment
  • Strong track record of delivering complex product development projects, ideally within high-tech industries
  • Deep expertise in mechanical design across the full product lifecycle
  • Experience working with precision engineering and complex assemblies, including optical systems integration
  • Strong knowledge of design for manufacture, including precision machined and sheet metal components
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks; experience with FEA or flow simulation is advantageous
  • Highly capable hands-on engineer with the ability to guide others through complex technical challenges
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with experience managing multiple priorities and stakeholders
