Maintenance Engineer

D R Newitt Recruitment is looking for a Maintenance Engineer

Job description

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

North Yorkshire | Shift-Based Role

The Opportunity

We’re working with a highly respected, long-established UK food and beverage manufacturer known for premium quality, craftsmanship, and continuous innovation. Operating from a modern, well-invested production facility in North Yorkshire, the business blends traditional production values with advanced automated manufacturing systems.

This is an opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a highly capable engineering team where standards are high, investment is consistent, and engineering plays a critical role in protecting product quality and operational performance.

Why This Role is Attractive

This is not a high-volume, high-churn FMCG environment. Instead, it offers:

  • A quality-led operation – Engineering supports premium product standards where precision and care matter
  • Strong capital investment – Modern equipment, ongoing upgrades, and a clear focus on reliability and efficiency
  • Balanced workload – A mix of planned maintenance, reactive support, and improvement activity
  • Genuine engineering influence – Engineers are involved in problem-solving and long-term reliability improvements, not just breakdown response
  • Stable, well-run environment – Low drama, structured, and professionally managed maintenance function
  • Varied technology – From legacy systems to highly automated, PLC-driven production lines

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production and packaging assets
  • Respond effectively to breakdowns, diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults
  • Work across pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Support installation, commissioning, and modification of new and existing equipment
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, uptime, and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and engineering safety standards (GMP / HACCP)
  • Accurately record maintenance activity using CMMS systems

About You

We are looking for a hands-on, solutions-focused engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced but controlled manufacturing environment.

You will likely have:

  • Recognised engineering qualification (Level 3 NVQ, HNC or equivalent)
  • Strong multi-skilled capability (electrical and mechanical fault-finding)
  • Experience within FMCG, food, packaging, or similar regulated manufacturing
  • Confident fault diagnosis on automated production equipment
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on prevention and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary with shift allowance
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Ongoing technical training and development
  • Exposure to modern automation and continuous improvement projects
  • Long-term stability within a well-established, respected manufacturer
