Graduate Structural Engineer

Location: Sheffield


Our client are seeking a Graduate Structural Engineer for their office based in Sheffield. The Graduate Structural Engineer will be working for a well-known consultancy, which operate within the Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Structural Engineer to join a fact growing company to work on a range of projects within a Multi-Disciplinary Environment.


The Graduate Structural Engineer will be working on large contracts as well as Structural reports / calculations and Designs. The Graduate Structural Engineer will assist in the design work on projects and tasks, with moderate supervision, to ensure the tasks are delivered as briefed and will be given the opportunity of career development and chartership training.


Graduate Structural Engineer Position Overview

  • Produce design calculations
  • Preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, specifications and reports
  • Assist with planning site investigation works
  • Preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice
  • Development and use of computer-based systems to improve efficiency
  • Undertake site inspection and attend site meetings
  • Produce designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures
  • Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties
  • Communicating with the client, other consultants and colleagues in the delivery of projects whilst maintaining a positive client relationship
  • Understand and adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures
  • Work within the given programme and cost constraints


Graduate Structural Engineer Position Requirements

  • Degree within a Civil or Structural Engineering Discipline
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Conversant in designing to British Standards/UK version of Eurocodes
  • Understanding of CDM regulations and the responsibilities of a designer
  • Conversant in designing structures in concrete, steelwork, timber and masonry
  • Understanding of engineering principles
  • Able to produce hand calculations and sketches of structural elements
  • Good interpersonal skills
