Child Support Carer – Welwyn Garden City

Start: As soon as possible

Duration:Term time only – up until 24th July 2026

Hours:

• Monday: 9:00–12:30
• Tuesday: 14:00–16:00
• Wednesday: 9:00–12:00
• Thursday: 9:00–12:30
• Friday: 9:00–12:00

Role Purpose

To provide calm, consistent, child-centred support to a 9-year-old boy with additional needs, supporting communication, emotional regulation, play, and daily routines in a safe environment.

Key Duties

• Support non-verbal communication using visual cues, objects of reference, and modelling
• Encourage engagement, joint attention, and child-led play
• Support emotional regulation and manage transitions
• Provide sensory support (ear defenders, outdoor activities, movement breaks)
• Ensure safety at all times due to limited awareness of danger
• Work closely with parents and follow care guidance consistently

Requirements

• Experience supporting children with additional needs (autism/SEN desirable)
• Calm, patient, and reliable
• Able to interpret non-verbal communication
• STEPS training desirable (restrain training)
