Senior Underwriter (f/m/d) embedded insurance, Full Time or Part Time

Helvetia Versicherungen Schweiz is looking for a Senior Underwriter (f/m/d) embedded insurance, Full Time or Part Time

Job description

Senior Underwriter (f/m/fd) embedded insurance, Full Time or Part Time

Introduction to Our Business

HGS UK Branch is the UK-authorised branch of a Liechtenstein-domiciled specialty insurer, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. We operate at the intersection of specialty underwriting and distribution innovation, with a clear strategic ambition: to build a self-sufficient, high-performing London Market platform that delivers profitable, sustainable growth across carefully selected specialty lines.

Our embedded insurance team sits at the heart of that ambition. We are a small, talented, and fast-growing team working at the forefront of one of the most dynamic segments in the London Market and we are looking for an exceptional senior underwriter to help us shape and grow the portfolio.

Embedded insurance, the seamless integration of insurance products within the purchasing journeys of third-party businesses, is one of the most significant structural growth opportunities in global insurance today. Our European portfolio spans more than 20 countries, offering capacity to an international client and partner network across affinity and embedded programmes including accidental damage cover for electronics and furniture, extended warranties for white and brown goods, and automotive warranty insurance.

In the UK, we work with a carefully selected network of coverholders, managing general agents, and third-party administrators, with a strong focus on high-frequency / low severity products where data quality, process discipline, and excellent customer outcomes are the critical levers of performance.

Your responsibilities

  • Serve as the team’s technical underwriting expert across affinity and embedded insurance programmes, with a particular focus on motor ancillary and extended warranty products
  • Shape and maintain underwriting strategy, including risk appetite, pricing frameworks, and portfolio guidelines, ensuring sustainable and profitable growth aligned to the branch’s objectives.
  • Lead the assessment and underwriting of new business, delivering commercially tailored risk and pricing solutions that reflect both technical discipline and market awareness.
  • Build and maintain strong, value-adding relationships with MGAs, TPAs, coverholders, and distribution partners, acting as a trusted and credible counterpart at a senior level.
  • Drive portfolio performance through data-driven insight, trend analysis, and disciplined risk selection, contributing to regular portfolio reviews and reporting to leadership.
  • Champion technical governance, regulatory compliance, and Consumer Duty principles, embedding best practice across the team’s underwriting and operational processes.
  • Provide day-to-day informal guidance and mentoring to colleagues across the team, helping to develop underwriting capability and professional standards in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Your qualifications

  • Substantial underwriting experience with a strong track record in affinity and embedded insurance, including motor warranty and ancillary lines.
  • Proven ability to manage and grow complex portfolios, combining technical rigour with sound commercial judgement.
  • Analytically strong and data-literate, with well-developed pricing skills and the confidence to make and defend underwriting decisions.
  • A natural collaborator who brings people with them, someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to grow, as well as delivering to their own high standards.
  • A broad and practical understanding of the UK regulatory environment, including the FCA/PRA framework and Consumer Duty obligations.
  • Comfortable working with a degree of autonomy in a dynamic, fast-moving environment, while remaining aligned to the team’s collective goals and values.
  • Experience of working within or alongside a European group structure would be an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly across a wide range of audiences from technical colleagues to senior partner organisations. Fluent in English, with German an advantage.
