Aqua Consultants is looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Process Engineer to strengthen our growing Water Engineering team. You’ll play a pivotal role delivering water and wastewater schemes for UK water companies, while also supporting wider utilities and infrastructure projects.


You will act as a trusted process engineering authority, leading the development of compliant, innovative and sustainable treatment solutions across the project lifecycle.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert process input into water and wastewater design and delivery
  • Act as a process subject matter expert and technical leader within Aqua
  • Carry out capacity assessments for treatment works and develop process options
  • Undertake process calculations, gap analysis and consent compliance assessments
  • Develop mass balances, P&IDs, control philosophies and commissioning strategies
  • Lead and participate in HAZOP, HAZID and HAZCOM studies
  • Assess potable water treatment, raw water deterioration and network risks
  • Develop process solutions through outline and detailed design
  • Produce high‑quality technical reports and design documentation
  • Collaborate closely with costing and commercial teams to develop viable options
  • Manage client liaison, progress reporting and technical coordination
  • Support project delivery through troubleshooting, commissioning and optimisation
  • Promote best practice in process design, safety, operability and environmental performance
  • Mentor and develop graduate, consultant and senior engineers
  • Attend stakeholder meetings, workshops and site visits across the UK


About You:

  • Accredited degree in Chemical, Environmental or Process Engineering
  • Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (essential)
  • Strong experience within water and/or wastewater treatment
  • Confident developing mass balances, optioneering studies and optimisation plans
  • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary consultancy teams
  • Excellent stakeholder, client and communication skills
  • Able to lead technical workstreams and support project delivery
  • Practical site experience (sampling/jar testing desirable)
  • Able to consider carbon, sustainability and environmental impacts
  • Comfortable working independently and providing technical leadership
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
