SEND Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant and supportive specialist school in Rotherham. This all-age special school caters for pupils aged 2–19 with a wide range of complex needs, including:

• Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
• Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
• Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
• Communication and sensory needs

The school is known for its nurturing environment and personalised curriculum, which supports pupils in developing independence, communication, and life skills. It has received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted (May 2024), with inspectors praising the school’s focus on communication and the positive impact staff have on pupils’ progress and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support pupils in accessing a bespoke curriculum tailored to their individual needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver high-quality care and education.
• Promote independence, dignity, and respect in all aspects of learning and personal development.
• Assist with personal care, moving and handling, and behaviour support where required.

Essential Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND in either an educational or care setting.
• A strong understanding of the challenges and rewards of working in a special school environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive, flexible, and compassionate approach.

Desirable Qualifications/Training:

• Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training
• Moving and Handling
• PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies
