Job description
The portering department transfers patients, goods and any other items around the trust in a prompt, professional and efficient manner. This is a zero hours (bank) role (approximately 37.5 hours per week). Previous applicants need not apply.
Key Responsibilities
Transfer all patients throughout the trust estate in a prompt, professional and efficient manner using appropriate means of transport and the portering management software TeleTracking.
Collect, transport and dispose of waste materials including clinical waste from wards and theatres, following Trust guidelines on waste management at all times.
Collect specimens from wards/departments and deliver to the laboratories in a prompt, professional and efficient manner using TeleTracking.
Collect blood products from the blood room and deliver to wards/departments in a prompt, professional and efficient manner as per blood products transfusion training and procedures.
Collect and transport patients from all areas of the site using a variety of wheeled equipment, e.g. Wheelchairs, trollies, beds.
Move deceased patients from the wards/departments to the Mortuary in a prompt, professional and efficient manner, always maintaining the respect and dignity of the patient.
Carry the emergency Alertive/Allocate response device as part of the trust cardiac arrest team and ensure that any equipment required by clinical colleagues is available where it is required as soon as possible and offer any assistance needed.
Move furniture and similar items around the trust.
Deliver clean linen and collect dirty linen.
Remove waste furniture and electrical items for disposal.
Safely deliver, store and correctly segregate full/empty medical gas cylinders.
Move clinical equipment (such as pumps) to and from wards/departments as required.
Move beds and mattresses to and from wards/departments and the bed store.
Deliver items from Stores to the various wards and departments when required.
Deliver drugs and fluids from Pharmacy to wards/departments ensuring all drug deliveries are handed to ward/dept staff.
Collect and distribute patient notes across the site from health records and all wards/departments.
Receive, collect, deliver incoming Trust mail from Royal Mail, couriers and other distribution networks; collect mail from all Trust departments and dispatch via Royal Mail, couriers and other distribution networks.
Report all damages to any infrastructure to the estates help desk.
Report all door and alarm faults to the Security Manager.
Always follow Trust policies and procedures.
Use telephones, pagers, radios, computers and touch screen devices as required for the role.
Carry out all activities according to H&S risk assessments, including manual handling and lifting.
Take part in the Trust annual PDR process.
Ensure that all mandatory training is kept up to date.
Perform any other duties designated as reasonable by the Head Porter, Charge Hand Porter or Deputy Operational Services Manager.
