Job description
You know those moments when a pupil finally “gets it”? That’s what this role is full of.
We’re supporting a specialist SEN school in South Shields that works with pupils aged 3–16 with a range of needs including autism, speech and language needs, moderate to severe learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
They’re looking for a Level 2 Teaching Assistant who brings patience, consistency, and a genuine care for helping young people thrive.
What your day will look like:This isn’t a sit-back-and-observe kind of role. You’ll be right in the middle of things, supporting learning, behaviour, and those all-important breakthrough moments.
- Working across primary and secondary age groups
- Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
- Helping adapt learning so every pupil can access it in their own way
- Encouraging independence, communication, and confidence
- Supporting routines that help pupils feel safe and settled
- Level 2 TA qualification or similar experience
- Experience with SEN, either in schools or similar settings
- Calm, resilient, and able to think on your feet
- Someone who sees potential, not just challenges
- Strong team culture, everyone supports each other
- A setting that truly understands SEN, not just talks about it
- Opportunities to grow your skills and confidence
- A real chance to become a permanent member of staff
