We are working closely with a supportive and inclusive school in Southampton that is seeking a confident Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives on building positive relationships, promoting emotional wellbeing, and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting children both inside and outside of the classroom, helping to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where pupils can succeed academically and personally.
Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs is essential, and first aid training would be highly desirable.
The role will involve:- Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence throughout the school day
- Supporting pupils during unstructured times where required
- Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- Be calm, patient, and adaptable in challenging situations
- Demonstrate strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Have a nurturing and empathetic approach
- Hold first aid training or be willing to undertake training
