Training opportunity for Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) - School Nursing

Fixed Term contract / secondment opportunity for 12 months commencing September 2026

Applicants must have a live registration on either the first or second part of the NMC register and be able to demonstrate 120 credits at level 1 and level 2. For BSc (Hons), applicants will require 120 higher education credits at Level 2 or above and for PG Dip, applicants will require a classified honours degree at 2:2 or above either in nursing or a health related subject.

You should also meet home student requirements (minimum 3 years residency in the UK) to be eligible for sponsorship.

Main duties of the jobThis role offers the opportunity to undertake the BSc (Hons) / Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) School Nursing and become registered as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The programme is designed to prepare SCPHNs with knowledge and skills to provide leadership and innovation in community health, improving population health and preventive care for children and families.

Specialist Community Public Health Nursing is a one‐year full‐time course combining taught modules at the University of the West of England (Bristol) and a clinical placement within one of six localities in Gloucestershire Health & Care NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be required to be flexible and able to travel anywhere within the county.

Qualifications

NMC Registration

Minimum of 120 higher education credits at Level 2 or above

Understanding of Government policy in current child health programmes and impact on local needs.

Experience

Demonstrates an understanding of public health nursing in application

Has some knowledge/experience of safeguarding children

Able to demonstrate clinical knowledge relating to children & young people.

Personal Attributes

Strong time management and organisation skills

Resilience: the role can be emotionally demanding

Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
