Position SummaryWe are looking to recruit Autism Support Workers (x6) to work in Gosforth at Ashleigh, a purpose‐built core and cluster development providing Independent Supported Living Services to people on the autism spectrum and who have complex needs.

Hours: 3 x 12.5 h shifts per week (full‐time). Although not essential our client is keen to recruit drivers.

Although an experienced driver is not essential, candidates who can drive will be an added value to the role.

Key Responsibilities

Assist individuals with autism in daily activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation, ensuring their comfort and dignity.

Support clients with their care plans by helping implement therapeutic activities and behavioural strategies tailored to each person's needs.

Monitor patients' vital signs, observe behavioural changes, and document progress accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols.

Use specialised equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other mobility aids to safely assist with transfers and movement.

Engage clients in social activities, community outings, and skill‐building exercises to promote socialisation and independence.

Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and adhering to infection control procedures.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and support teams to develop and update individualised care plans.

Observe for signs of distress or health issues such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, providing immediate support or alerting medical staff as necessary.

Support clients during emergencies by applying first aid or CPR when needed while following safety guidelines.

Assist with heavy lifting tasks when required using appropriate techniques or equipment like Hoyer lifts.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards related to home health, hospice care, or assisted living environments.

Qualifications & Skills

Proven experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Knowledge of patient care techniques including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), medication administration, and patient monitoring.

Familiarity with care environments such as group homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home & community care settings.

Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect client privacy and confidentiality.

Certifications in CPR and First Aid are highly desirable; ongoing training is encouraged.

Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts or manual techniques.

Excellent observational skills for patient monitoring and recognising behavioural or health changes promptly.

Capable of maintaining cleanliness through routine cleaning tasks essential for infection control.

Compassionate communication skills for working effectively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing needs within a caregiving environment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary £12.35 per hour working 37.5 hours per week

6 weeks paid holiday increasing to 8 weeks
