ROLE DESCRIPTION
Brio Digital are supporting a consultancy on a major NHS digital programme and are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team. You will take a lead role in the design and delivery of complex, enterprise-scale solutions, bringing strong Java, AWS, and API expertise to a programme that is making a real difference to patient care across the country.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design and development of robust, scalable Java-based applications across the programme
- Build and maintain cloud-native solutions on AWS, applying well-architected principles throughout
- Design, develop, and test REST APIs to a high standard, ensuring performance, reliability, and security
- Use Postman for API testing, documentation, and validation across development and test environments
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical standards alongside the Technical Architect
- Carry out thorough code reviews, championing quality and engineering best practice across the team
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across development, test, and live environments
- Support CI/CD pipeline development and automated testing practices
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including architects, testers, and product owners
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- NHS or government experience is essential - candidates without this will not be considered
- Strong, demonstrable senior-level Java development experience on complex, enterprise-scale programmes
- Solid AWS experience across core services including EC2, Lambda, S3, and RDS
- Proven REST API design and development experience, with strong understanding of API security and governance
- Proficient in Postman for API testing and documentation
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage across technical and non-technical teams
- Comfortable working remotely and independently with occasional travel to London
