Project: Major Energy‑from‑Waste commissioning project

Start Date: By 26 May 2026

End Date: 31 August 2026 (subject to project completion)

Shift Pattern: 6 days / 6 nights / 12 days off

Engagement Type: Contractor

£500 - £550 per day

We are seeking an experienced Control Room Operator (CRO) to support commissioning activities on a major Energy‑from‑Waste (EfW) project. This role combines control room operations with hands‑on commissioning support and is ideally suited to operators with experience in plant start‑up, testing, and optimization environments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing plant systems online safely and efficiently, working closely with commissioning, engineering, and operations teams throughout the commissioning phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and control boilers, turbines, generators, and associated balance‑of‑plant systems via DCS and local control panels
  • Support commissioning and plant start‑up activities, ensuring systems are commissioned safely and in accordance with procedures
  • Monitor plant performance, alarms, and process parameters, taking corrective actions where required
  • Assist with hands‑on mechanical commissioning activities such as pump works, filter changes, greasing, and system checks
  • Identify, report, and escalate operational issues, deviations, and risks to the Commissioning Manager and wider project team
  • Work collaboratively within shift teams to support safe and efficient commissioning operations

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Control Room Operator within Energy‑from‑Waste, biomass, or thermal power generation environments
  • Strong understanding of boiler operations, steam systems, and power generation processes
  • Experience supporting commissioning, start‑up, or outage activities is highly desirable
  • Valid safety certification (CCNSG, CSCS, SCC, or equivalent)
  • Good working knowledge of HSEQ standards and safe plant operation


Skills & Competencies

  • Confident operating plant using DCS systems in live or commissioning environments
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills, with calm decision‑making under pressure
  • Hands‑on and adaptable, with willingness to support field‑based activities when required
  • Effective communicator within shift teams and with multi‑disciplinary stakeholders
  • Safety‑focused mindset with proactive risk awareness
