The RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) or Trainee ANP to join our established, supportive and forward‐thinking ANP team working across the Initial Assessment Unit (IAU), Acute Receiving Units (ARU3 & ARU5), Rapid Access and Acute Care (RAaC) and the Same Day Urgent Care Centre (SDUCC) at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

This is an exciting time in the development of the RAaC and acute receiving services, with the ANP role being central in delivering high‐quality, patient‐centred unscheduled care. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting patient flow, facilitating early assessment and clinical decision‐making, and contributing to safe, timely discharge or admission.

We are seeking a highly motivated, adaptable and resilient individual with excellent communication, organisational and clinical skills. The post holder will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking and decision‐making skills in a fast‐paced acute environment. The post holder will manage a defined caseload of patients, including those with undifferentiated and complex presentations, and will contribute to service development, clinical leadership, and the support and education of junior staff across all areas.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Permanent posts; 2x full‐time at 36 hours, 1x part‐time 18 hours

Shift pattern: 12 hour shifts, over 7 days, including public holidays

Key Responsibilities

Take and record a patient's history including medical, family and social history, talking to the patient, relatives or other carers as appropriate. There may be significant barriers to understanding and acceptance due to sensitive or contentious information given and received.

Conduct a comprehensive clinical examination of the patient, including a physical examination of all systems and a mental health assessment.

Screen patients for disease using clinical and other findings such as laboratory results or x‐rays.

Make diagnostic decisions based on interpretation of clinical and other findings such as laboratory results or x‐rays.

Apply high‐level decision‐making and assessment skills to formulate appropriate differential diagnoses based on synthesis of clinical findings.

Have the authority to request, where indicated, appropriate diagnostic tests / investigations using judgement and clinical reasoning, based on differential diagnoses.

Conduct invasive and non‐invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures where appropriate.

Interpret and analyse previously ordered results of tests/investigations and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals when needed.

Act on the results to confirm diagnosis and thereby optimise treatment and management outcomes.

Formulate an action plan for the treatment of the patient, synthesising clinical information based on the patient's presentation, history, clinical assessment and findings from relevant investigations, using appropriate evidence‐based practice.

Prescribe treatment including medications as a Non‐medical Prescriber based on a sound knowledge of pharmacology.

Essential Criteria

Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration

Evidence of, or working towards, a Master's level qualification in Advanced Practice

Demonstrable competence in clinical assessment, clinical reasoning, diagnostics, and decision‐making

Non‐Medical Prescribing qualification (or willingness to work towards it)

Applicants Should Be Either

A qualified ANP with experience in acute medicine and/or ambulatory care

An experienced RGN with the commitment and capability to undertake the ANP training pathway (Annexe 21 will apply until successful completion of training)
