Job description
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. Our newly expanded Junior Clinical Fellow programme includes the option of full time Emergency Medicine posts as well as 80:20 split posts between Emergency Medicine and a specialist interest.
Do you want to experience the excitement of seeing the full scope of emergency presentations in one of only 12 Emergency Departments designated as an Adult and Paediatric Major Trauma Centre?
Are you looking to continue to develop a career in emergency medicine under the supervision of a team of consultants who have consistently delivered excellent training at all levels?
Do you want to be part of a highly supportive and friendly team and work in a fast paced, high intensity environment? We are consistently one of the top trusts regionally for performance against the 4‐hour standard, delivered by focussing on high quality patient care throughout the organisation. In 2019 we won the inaugural Newcastle Hospitals Clinical Team of the Year Award. This combination of high performance, varied case mix and close team working creates a unique environment to support your professional development and enjoyment of your job.
We have an excellent track record of helping our clinical fellows build portfolios which rank very highly in national recruitment and have experience of progressing senior doctors through the CESR route to Consultant level.
Our Junior Clinical Fellow programme includes posts with the exciting opportunity to have 20% of your time dedicated to a specialist interest. The specialist interest posts include pre‐hospital emergency medicine, point of care ultrasound, paediatric emergency medicine and clinical research. See more information below.
Whilst working in Emergency Medicine you will join a team of 29 consultants, 3 specialty doctors, 18 middle grades, 28 other resident doctors, 9 ACPs and over 100 nurses working in the Emergency Department. This post involves a full shift system, including nights and weekend work.
Your primary responsibility will include delivering care to the full spectrum of patients that attend the emergency department. You will have the opportunity to be part of the "trauma team" and use and develop your emergency care skills to resuscitate the most critically unwell patients. Resident doctors in the ED are supported by senior resident and higher specialty trainee doctors, and resident on‐call ED Consultants 24/7.
As a flexible working friendly organisation we want to ensure you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service we will do our best to make it work for you.
With around 2 million contacts with patients every year we deliver care from:
Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
Freeman Hospital
Newcastle Dental Hospital
Cramlington Manor Walks
Urgent treatment centres
Newcastle Fertility Centre
Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
Northern Genetics Service
These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting‐edge care (supported by state‐of‐the‐art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS. We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
