Level 2 Apprenticeship - Healthcare Support WorkerThe closing date is 17 May 2026.
The Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship is a developmental role working alongside clinical staff to provide high quality care to patients while completing a recognised qualification. The training programme integrates both academic and work based learning through close collaboration with the Trust and education provider. The outcome of the apprenticeship is to equip candidates with the specific knowledge, skills and capabilities to progress to a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker role.

Main duties of the jobTo deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a registered nurse or other registered professional with a focus on promoting patient centred healthcare and promoting independence. Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values. Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual. Work collaboratively with the team around them to develop own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills. By the end of the apprenticeship, develop the ability to work without direct supervision and deliver care independently.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting patients with daily activities such as washing, dressing and eating
Maintaining patients privacy and dignity
Monitoring and recording basic observations
Assisting nursing staff with clinical duties
Communicating effectively with patients, families and the healthcare team
Qualifications
GCSE A*‐D or Grade 3 in English Language or equivalent Functional Skills Level 1 or above, and GCSE A*‐D or Grade 3 in Mathematics or equivalent Functional Skills Level 1 or above
Experience
Experience in working or volunteering in a customer service or customer-facing role
Understanding of holistic care
Understanding and adherence to the confidential nature of work
Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of the HCSW role
Experience of working in a health or social care setting
Other
Able to assist others with the delivery of care to patients including toileting and personal care
Personal physical contact with patients
Dealing with body fluids and odours whilst providing person-centred care to patients
Applicants will be required to stay on programme for 12 months
Can work in high‐pressure environments
Can acknowledge distressing, emotionally challenging circumstances
Can demonstrate empathy with distressed or anxious patients or relatives
