Two permanent positions available.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a forward‐thinking palliative medicine department as a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on ward 2 at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital. The area has 14 beds, with the flexibility to increase to 19 beds in times of pressure to support the trust, and looks after patients nearing the end of their lives.

You will be required to work long days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the jobTo support the Senior Sister in the day‐to‐day management of the unit and to ensure the delivery of patient‐centred, clinically effective holistic care in a safe and caring environment.

Provide specific clinical knowledge and advice to the multi‐professional team and, taking into account all aspects of Clinical Governance, promote and develop the use of evidence‐based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care.

Provide supervision of the delivery of care by junior staff, allocating the clinical workload as required and responding to changing clinical situations, whilst providing the necessary advice and support to maintain high standards of patient care.

Act as a role model at all times and ensure that all team members and others visiting the area give a high priority to policies and procedures relating to infection control in order to maintain a safe clinical environment for everyone.

Provide guidance and support to junior members of staff and comply with the NMC standards for mentors.

Maintain accurate, legible and timely records of patient care using the current patient recording system.

Person SpecificationKnowledge

Demonstrable experience of working with end of life patients, and contributing to the quality and development of the service

Demonstrable experience of working in palliative medicine

Communication Skills

Ability to demonstrate advanced communication skills

To have undertaken an advanced communication skills course or equivalent

Experience

Demonstrable post registration experience and the ability to demonstrate management skills

Demonstrable experience of working within a multidisciplinary team

Professional Development

Demonstrable Degree level study or relevant post registration experience/ study

Demonstrable experience of mentoring/coaching

Qualifications

NMC Registration
