This RCOG-accredited subspecialty training programme represents an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious candidate to join the Gynaecological Oncology department at UCLH, a premier tertiary referral centre.
Main duties of the jobThis is a training post, and the priority will be to develop the surgical and clinical skills required for successful completion of the RCOG subspecialty training programme.
The successful candidate will be expected to attend and prepare for theatre lists (average 5 three sessions theatre lists/ week), manage outpatient work, lead ward rounds, prepare for the MDT meeting, liaise across specialties and with the regional network, and organise the junior team rota. As such, a high level of leadership, management and organisational skills will be necessary for this post.
Candidates will be expected to have significant experience of working in a gynaecological oncology department, with knowledge of treatment pathways and evidence-based cancer management and demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients.
Level of surgical experience (both open surgery and minimal access) is expected to be high to be able to progress at the expected standard for this competitive programme. Alongside their gynae oncology work, the candidate will undertake work with allied specialties to supplement their learning.
The candidate will be expected to lead service improvement, audit and research work, and risk management work and would therefore be expected to have high levels of written and verbal communication skills for presented work.

Person SpecificationKnowledge and Qualifications
Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
MRCOG or equivalent
Higher academic degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
First author research publications in gynae‐oncology
BSCCP accreditation or registered in training
Experience
Completion of ST5 Obstetrics and Gynaecology training or equivalent
Wide experience in gynaecology surgery
Additional clinical experience/training that may be required

A good understanding of gynaecological oncology
Good time management
Able to work under pressure
Demonstrate sound decision‐making skills and ability exert authority at a level appropriate for the post and/or situation
Communication
Able to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English
Able to show empathy towards patients
Able to build rapport, listen, persuade/negotiate with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
Able to work co‐operatively with other teams within the Trust and the NLCN
Personal and People Development
Experience in teaching
Able to demonstrate good leadership skills
