An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust In Patient Area as a Maternity Care Assistant within maternity services. We have posts available both on delivery suite and the inpatient wards.

The Maternity Care Assistant provides support to the Midwifery and medical team via this exciting and varied role. You will be working as part of the team in the Inpatient service but may on occasions be required to provide support to other clinical areas within our maternity unit. These areas provide an opportunity to gain a wide variety of skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the jobThe successful applicants should be able to work a variety of day and night shifts patterns across a 7 day service including weekends and all bank holidays. A preference for full time or part time working should be stated on the application form.

Job responsibilitiesYou will need to have good computer skills, administrative skills, attention to detail and good communication skills, both face to face and on the telephone.

Person SpecificationQualifications

GCSE Maths and English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent

NVQ Level 2 in Health care or equivalent experience

Care certificate

Experience

Awareness of Health and Safety issues

Knowledge and understanding of data protection confidentially

One year's formal maternity care experience in a hospital/birth centre

Experience of working in an acute hospital setting

Experience of providing high quality care

Understanding of Safeguarding issues

Experience of using hospital patient record system

Skills

Approachable manner with good interpersonal skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritise workload

Ability to work without direct supervision

Able to identify when to elevate issues/concerns

Understanding of the role and own professional boundaries
