We are seeking an experienced and motivatedHealthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive GP practice teamon a 9-month fixed-term maternity cover contract to start August 2026.25 hours a week - 8am -1pm, Monday - FridayThis is an excellent opportunity for a skilled HCA who is confident indelivering high-quality patient care within a primary care setting. Thesuccessful candidate will play a key role in supporting the clinical team andensuring patients receive efficient and professional care.Main duties of the job As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support the practice team in delivering a range of clinical and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:Conducting ECGs and blood pressure monitoring.Performing NHS Health Checks and Enhanced Health checksSupporting the Practice Nurses with long-term condition management, including diabetes, AF, and hypertension obs reviews.Carrying out height, weight, and BMI measurements.Processing specimens (urine, swabs) and conducting basic diagnostic tests.Providing lifestyle advice to patients, including smoking cessation and weight management.Updating and maintaining patient records accurately in the clinical system.About us Layton Medical Centre is a well-established, forward-thinking GP practice dedicated to providing high-quality primary care to our diverse patient population. Our team consists of GPs, ANP's, nurses,TNAs, HCAs, pharmacists, and administrative staff who work collaboratively to ensure efficient, patient-centred care.Job responsibilities As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the clinical team by:Delivering safe and effective patient care under the supervision of practice nurses and GPs.Conducting basic clinical procedures, such as venepuncture, ECGs, and health checks.Assisting with the management of chronic disease reviews.Supporting patients with lifestyle advice and preventative care.Handling specimens and diagnostic testing as per clinical guidelines.Maintaining infection control procedures and ensuring all clinical areas are well-stocked.Accurately documenting clinical data and patient interactions in electronic records.The role requires a proactive, caring, and professional approach to patient care, ensuring a high standard of service at all times.Person Specification Experience Experience in phlebotomy - EssentialExperience in conducting ECG'sStrong communication and patient interaction skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.IT literacy, with experience using EMIS. Understanding of infection control, confidentiality, and safeguarding protolcols.Qualifications NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification/experience).Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a GP surgery.Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
