Role OverviewStudent Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – School Health Nursing, Oxfordshire. Fixed 12‐month full‐time term, commencing September 2026.

The role combines academic study at Buckingham New University with prolonged placement alongside the Practice Supervisor and Clinical Education Lead, working with school‐aged children. Key duties include providing public‐health related care, safeguarding, emotional, sexual and physical health support, delivering personal, health and social education in schools, and managing medical conditions.

During placement the nurse works with the 0‐19 team supporting locality‐wide projects, and partners with children, young people, families, primary care, schools, statutory and voluntary services to enable health‐enhancing activities and improve outcomes. Services are delivered within schools and community settings, and in partnership with local health and social care providers across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset.

Responsibilities

Provide public‐health related care to school‐aged children, including safeguarding, emotional, sexual and physical health support.

Assist schools in delivering personal, health and social education.

Manage medical conditions within schools.

Work with the 0‐19 team on local projects and partnership initiatives.

Collaborate with children, young people, families, primary care and other statutory and voluntary services to facilitate health‐enhancing activities.
