Staff Nurse (Adelaide Ward - Haematology / Oncology) - Fixed TermBand 5 Staff Nurse (Adelaide Ward - Haematology / Oncology)

This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

Adelaide ward has 23 beds including six isolation positive pressure rooms; these rooms are for high dose chemotherapy patients and patients with neutropenic sepsis who require isolation.

We care for a variety of patients with acute presentations such as sepsis, acute kidney injury and metastatic spinal cord compression whereby patients need emergency radiotherapy all the way through to terminally ill patients who require palliative management.

We work closely with both haematology and oncology specialities; in the past few years the haematology team have started Autologic stem cell transplants on patients with myeloma and lymphoma with exciting plans to extend the service in the future.

We are essentially a specialist ward, but have many acute patients needing numerous interventions; opportunities exist to practice clinical skills such as Venepuncture, cannulation, NG insertion, male and female catheters and central line maintenance.

Main duties of the jobWe are seeking a professional and caring staff nurse who is committed to providing excellent nursing care to haematology and oncology patients.

We are looking for someone who shows motivation in developing new skills and knowledge, embraces change and innovation positively and with enthusiasm.

You should demonstrates an empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers. You should also be able to work under own initiative and without direct supervision within the responsibilities of role.

Duties include:

Safe administration of medication via different routes.

Working with the MDT - demonstrates ability to work effectively within a team.

Clinical Skills trained.

Escalate when a patient deteriorates and act upon Observations.

Assessments and care plans.

General Nursing care, washing, feeding, toileting, wound care.

Job responsibilitiesThe post-holder is responsible for undertaking and recording comprehensive nursing assessment and planning, delivering and evaluating high standards of evidenced-based nursing care to a diverse group of patients.

Deliver care without direct supervision and be accountable for the care delivered and any omissions of care.

Teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the non-registered nursing workforce.

Be accountable for care or any omissions of care that you delegate to others.

Act as role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Evidence of recent continuous professional development

Experience

Experience (through placement or employment ) of working in an acute clinical environment

Chemotherapy trained
