Health Care Support Worker - OutpatientsTo work across both Outpatient Nursing Sites and the Community Diagnostic Centre.

To work under the direct/indirect supervision of and in support of the registered nurse and or the registered Allied Health Professional carrying out delegated nursing and non-nursing duties to promote patient centred care.

To ensure that all duties required to assist the clinician performing the clinic are completed in a timely manner to ensure the best patients experience possible. To be mindful at all times of the impact on patients of own actions.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Outpatients Team at Wye Valley NHS Trust. The successful candidate will rotate within the outpatient departments to enable multi-disciplinary team working and be expected to gain competence in many clinical skills to support the wide variety of specialities within the department.

Wye Valley NHS Trust is also able to provide band 2 to band 3 developmental pay progression opportunities, subject to experience and competencies achieved.

Main duties of the job

To perform venepuncture for more than 50% of working duties.

To assist the clinician during clinic in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care, ensuring the registered nurse is regularly updated on patient's condition and progress where appropriate.

To receive patients into the unit, complete first line clinical assessments verification of the patients ID, height, weight, BMI, venepuncture, basic observations NEWS2, Specimen Collection, ECG's, Sigmoidoscopy Assistant, Application of Orthotics, Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT), Removal of clips and sutures, Outpatient Procedure Room circulating skills.

Undertake competencies supported by Clinical Specialities SOP's as agreed by Outpatients Clinical Manager.

To coordinate the patient flow through clinic, calling the patients through and escorting them to the clinician's room in a timely manner.

Ensure the couch roll is changed between patients and the couch cleaned.

Ensure the clinic room is cleaned and stocked up at the end of every clinic.

To minimise hazards in the working area and report any identifiable hazards to the nurse in charge. To adhere to all safe systems of work applicable to the work area.

Education and Qualifications

Completion of WVT HCA skills certificate or equivalent

NVQ/Diploma level 2 or 3 in care or equivalent

Diploma level 2/3 in Health and Social Care

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrate skills to other newly appointed HCA

Demonstrate knowledge of roles and responsibility within clinical setting

Competent venepuncture and ECG'S skills.

Experience

Working with people in a customer care environment

Previous experience in care environment

Advanced communication ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a wide range of people
