We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed part time practicenurse to join our friendly patient focused team .

Main duties of the jobOur practice nurses play a key role in providing patient care, promoting health, and supporting doctors in the day-to-day running of the practice. Duties include carrying out health assessments, administering vaccinations and immunisations, treating minor injuries, managing long-term conditions such as diabetes or asthma, and providing advice on healthy lifestyles. Practice nurses also perform routine procedures such as blood pressure checks, cervical screening, wound care, and blood tests. In addition, they maintain accurate patient records, support infection control procedures, and help educate patients about their treatment and ongoing care.

Job responsibilitiesThe practice nurse will be responsible to the partners.

Duties include:

HCA: Providing supervision, advice and guidance to any practice employed Healthcare Assistant - this may include undertaking annual appraisal for the HCA.

The management of minor injuries

Dressings and review of wounds and sutures

Phlebotomy urgent & fasting, routine when necessary.

Assistance in minor operative procedures carried out by the partners.

Chaperoning the partners when required, advising non-clinical staff on best practice with regard to chaperoning

Advice to patients on disease prevention

Contraceptive advice according to practice protocols

Cervical smears, breast awareness, swabs and BP checks

Administration of immunisation of children, adults and holiday goers according to practice protocols

Setting up and running disease clinics

Running other clinics at the discretion of the partners including keeping accurate and up to date records and inputting all data on the practice clinical system, completion of paperwork when required.

Audit of practice nurse-run clinics when requested by the partners

Ensuring adequate stocks of in-date emergency drugs as required in the list provided

Ensuring equipment such as sphygs, scales, nebulisers and other clinical equipment are kept in good working order.

Carry out daily testing of the fridge temperature, and weekly testing of the defibrillator battery.

Ensuring that the doctors rooms are kept adequately stocked with sample bottles, phlebotomy equipment, speculae, gloves and a variety of other items commonly in daily use by the doctors

Ensuring that the nurses treatment rooms are kept in a hygienic and safe condition at all times

Referring to a partner or other doctor employed as an assistant or locum all patients requiring prescription or who do not confirm to recognised protocols or patterns of disease

Performing new patient health checks/NHS Health Checks & any other routine health checks

Relevant paper work as agreed by the partners.

All information to be recorded on the patients computer record (emis web)

Ensuring that adequate stocks of vaccination, contraceptive materials and other items necessary for the completion of dressings, minor ops and the usual general practice examinations.

Other reasonable requests made by the partners or practice manager

Registered General Nurse

NMC Registered

A demonstrable commitment to professional development

Qualifications in Cytology

Qualifications in Immunisation

Recognised qualification to diploma level Chronic Disease Management Diabetes or Asthma and COPD

Recognised qualification Sexual Health

Knowledge and skills

Knowledge and skills

Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post

Specific nursing skills and qualifications

Knowledge of Quality Outcomes Framework

Computer Literate

Experience

Experience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct

Experience of dealing with the public and patients

Experience of using Emis Web Clinical System

Experience of undertaking Audit
