About the RoleAs a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker in surgery, you'll play a vital role in supporting our nursing teams to deliver outstanding patient care. Every day is different, and your work will have a direct impact on the experience of patients with a range of conditions. Training & DevelopmentWhether you're new to healthcare or looking to build on existing experience, we'll support you every step of the way. You'll begin with our 'New to Care' induction programme, designed to help you settle into life at the Royal United Hospitals Bath. You'll learn the essential skills needed for the role and work towards the Care Certificate (unless you have already completed it).

Main Duties of the JobHealthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is a key member of the ward team, delivering high‐quality, compassionate care to adults. Working under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will provide personal care, assist with clinical tasks, support patient monitoring, and help maintain a safe, effective ward environment.

Duties

Blood pressure monitoring

Oxygen saturation levels

Body temperature

Pulse rate and respiration rate

Glucose monitoring

Collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples

Wound swabs

Recording your actions accurately in patient notes

You will work as part of a team and on your own, drawing from your knowledge, skills and experience. You will adapt communication to meet the needs of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues with kindness and compassion. You will handle patient and Trust property with care and may need to order supplies and restock. You will also help to support, train and welcome new colleagues, students and others to your area of work. Opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills will be available, specific to your needs and area of work.

Person SpecificationSkills & Experience – Essential Criteria

You have experience working in a public‐facing or customer‐care role or environment.

You can use IT systems and databases and focus on detail with the ability to spot problems. You will know when to correct or when to escalat[e] errors.

Understanding the need for strict confidentiality.

Experience working within a team.

Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills at interview assessment.

Desirable Criteria

Experience working in a health and social care role and NHS experience, understanding of NHS/social care systems.

Previous experience in healthcare and the Care Certificate; if not, support will be provided to achieve it within the first three months.
