Phonics Teaching AssistantLocation: LeedsStart Date: September 2026 (or sooner)Contract: PermanentHours: Full-time (term time only)Salary: Competitive, dependent on experienceAbout the RoleWe are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Phonics Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming primary school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about early literacy and helping children build strong foundations in reading and writing.The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to deliver high‐quality phonics support, both in small groups and on a 1:1 basis, helping pupils develop essential phonics skills and confidence.Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of a structured phonics programme (e.g. Read Write Inc., Letters and Sounds, or similar)Work with groups and individual pupils to improve phonics, reading, and early writing skillsAssist in identifying pupils who need additional support and adapt strategies accordinglyHelp create an engaging and inclusive learning environmentMonitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience working in a primary school setting (preferably EYFS or KS1)Strong understanding of phonics teaching approachesA passion for supporting early reading developmentExcellent communication and teamwork skillsA patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
