Grade B – £28,598 – £34,434

Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

We're offering four exciting 12‐month graduate positions within our dynamic, multi‐disciplinary Public Health division – the largest within any Local Authority in the country. This is your chance to shape change, influence policy, and help improve the health and wellbeing of over a million residents.

About the TeamOur Public Health Directorate is at the heart of improving life outcomes for Birmingham citizens. You'll gain hands‐on experience across one or more of our six specialist sub‐divisions:

Healthy Behaviours & Communities

Health Inequalities & Addictions

Children & Young People

Adults, Ageing Well & Workplace Health

Knowledge, Evidence & Governance

Health Protection & Place

Health Inequalities and Addictions: System leadership to embed health equity programmes, Addictions

From tackling inequalities to designing behaviour‐change campaigns and working with NHS Integrated Care Systems, your contribution will help shape the city's health landscape.

What You'll Do

Run structured public health projects from concept to delivery

Respond to emerging priorities that impact the health of Birmingham's population

Analyse and interpret health data to identify local needs

Engage with citizens and partners across the city

Present creative, evidence‐based solutions to stakeholders

Support evaluations, health needs assessments, health impact assessments and more

Contribute to equality impact assessments and evidence‐based practice

Build valuable relationships across the Council, NHS, and community organisations

This role is designed to springboard your public health career, providing the training, support and exposure needed to thrive.

Who We're Looking For

Graduated within the last 3 years with a Public Health degree or a relevant degree‐level qualification

Enthusiastic about applying public health concepts in a real‐world, fast‐paced environment

Committed to continuous learning and professional development

Understanding of Public Health priorities and the wider system

Additional Information

Attendance required in the office in Birmingham City Centre 1 to 2 days a week

Assessment Centre for shortlisted candidates on 25 June 2026 in central Birmingham; full day attendance required

Proof of right to work in the UK required for the 12‐month contract; visa sponsorship is not available

Preference for applicants who live or study in the West Midlands

DBS check may be required

Exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
