The closing date is 31 May 2026Applications are invited for Trust Doctor at JCF/CT/F3 level (Nodal Point 3) within Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery in the directorate of Gastrointestinal Medicine and Surgery from August 2026.The post is based at St Thomas' Hospital.Main duties of the job The posts involve active involvement in a busy emergency general surgery team in a 1 in 8 rota including dedicated emergency theatre sessions. Time in elective GI surgery includes main theatre, day surgery at St Thomas' and at other trust sites, including Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup, and exposure to complex tertiary surgery.Upper GI at St Thomas' is the designated regional unit for gastro‐oesophageal malignancies and also provides surgery for upper gastrointestinal benign disease. There is also a tertiary endocrine surgical service for thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disease.Lower GI Unit has special interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery, locally advanced, recurrent rectal cancer resection and laparoscopic and robotic surgery and has a tertiary referral pelvic floor unit, with regular MDMs held in each of these subspecialties.Each JCF has an assigned Educational Supervisor and participation in audit and research is encouraged. There is ample opportunity to enhance surgical experience by performing operations under supervision, assisting at more complex operations and practising surgical techniques in the simulation centre.
