Job description
If you enjoy the trading side of insurance and want more room to influence the outcome, then this is the kind of role that tends to stand out.
It will suit someone who enjoys dealing with more complex placements, values proper market engagement and wants the freedom to negotiate, shape solutions and make things happen rather than simply follow a process.
The opportunity
- This is a high-visibility broking and placement role within an established in-house intermediary function where your technical knowledge, judgement and market credibility will be used properly.
- You will work closely with internal stakeholders, support the placement of larger and harder to place risks and help secure the right outcome for both colleagues and clients.
- The role has been created through growth, which means there is already momentum behind it and a clear need for what this person will bring.
What the role looks like
- You will be trading with insurers across a broad market, handling cases that need more thought, better negotiation and a stronger understanding of how to get the deal done.
- Some placements will be straightforward, but the real value in the role comes from your ability to add structure, challenge assumptions and create options when the answer is not obvious.
- You will also be working alongside sales and client teams internally, helping to shape strategy on new business and defensive renewals, bringing a practical view of market appetite, placement routes and deal viability.
Responsibilities
- You will broker new and renewal business across a range of insurer relationships, with a particular focus on complex, larger or less straightforward risks.
- You will negotiate terms, rates and coverage with the market, always with a view to securing the right commercial and technical outcome.
- You will work closely with internal colleagues to support pipeline development, improve conversion and bring clarity to difficult cases.
- You will provide informed placement advice on challenging renewals and help create solutions where standard routes are unlikely to be enough.
- You will build strong insurer relationships and use them well, both tactically and strategically, to support successful trading outcomes.
Who this could suit
- This could suit someone already working in a broking, placement, account handling, account executive or market-facing underwriting role who wants a more influential position.
- Your current job title matters less than your technical grounding, your commercial instinct and your ability to deal confidently with insurers and internal stakeholders alike.
You will bring
- Strong insurance knowledge and a sound understanding of commercial risks.
- Market-facing experience gained within a broker, insurer or similar environment.
- The ability to negotiate well and build credible, lasting trading relationships.
- The confidence to deal with larger or harder to place cases without losing sight of the commercial objective.
The business
You'll be joining a well established and highly regarded insurance group with a serious reputation in the market, a stable platform, and a culture that gives people room to build a long term career. The team itself has a clear role to play, good visibility internally and the backing to do its job properly.
Package and benefits
- The salary is up to £55,000, with bonus potential of 15%, a strong pension and a wider benefits package that is known to be one of the more attractive on offer in this part of the market.
- The role is based in the West Midlands, within a business that also invests heavily in development and long-term career progression.
- You'll work on a hybrid basis with 40% office based.
The next step
For the right person this move offers more scope, more autonomy and better quality market engagement without pushing you into a purely sales led environment.
If that sounds like the sort of move you have been waiting for, please do apply in confidence, or make contact to discuss.
